Historique
L'histoire de Frégeneuil remonte au 12e siècle. Il s'appelait alors "Donroma" et appartenait au chapitre de la cathédrale d'Angoulême. Il passa ensuite, à partir du 17e siècle, à des propriétaires privés. Frégeneuil est constitué d'un ensemble de bâtiments de communs, de plan rectangulaire, qui forment un U enserrant une basse-cour. Un deuxième enclos, entouré de murs sur les côtés nord et est, comprend le logis rectangulaire avec un décrochement sur l'élévation nord, et un pigeonnier dans l'angle sud-est. Le mur de clôture est orné par endroit de pilastres sommés de chapiteaux et d'acrotères. Il est interrompu par les piles d'un portail. History
The history of Frégeneuil goes back to the 12th century. It was then called "Donroma" and belonged to the chapter of Angoulême cathedral. It subsequently passed, from the 17th century onwards, to private owners. Frégeneuil consists of an ensemble of outbuildings of rectangular plan, which form a U enclosing a farmyard. A second enclosure, surrounded by walls on the north and east sides, comprises the rectangular dwelling with an offset on the north elevation, and a dovecot in the south-east angle. The enclosure wall is ornamented in places with pilasters topped with capitals and acroteria. It is interrupted by the piers of a gateway. The south elevation of the dwelling overlooks a terrace with a well and a basin communicating with a vast meadow. A ruined building served, according to tradition, as a chapel. Internally, the dwelling preserves the staircase, ceilings with joists, fireplaces, door panels from the 17th century.
