Historique
La gare est, à l'origine, un ensemble architectural construit en 1865. Face à l'afflux massif de voyageurs, il apparait nécessaire, dès 1909, de procéder à l'agrandissement des installations. Le projet est finalement adopté en 1930. L'architecte Jean Philippot est chargé de la construction du bâtiment de la gare sur la base d'un plan en U. On assiste alors à la réalisation d'une structure de forme étirée, dotée d'un comble en tuiles plates composé de plusieurs décrochés de toitures. Le bâtiment est édifié en béton armé avec une voûte à fermes cintrées surmontant le vaste hall des voyageurs. Il s'agit d'une création architecturale à la fois innovante, si l'on considère le volume général de la gare, et marquée de références locales comme en témoigne l'utilisation du faux pan de bois ainsi que de la pierre et de la brique en parement. L'édifice est également décoré de toiles marouflées peintes par Louis Houpin en 1932.

History
The station is, originally, an architectural complex built in 1865. Faced with the massive influx of passengers, it became necessary, from 1909 onwards, to proceed with the enlargement of the installations. The project was finally adopted in 1930. Architect Jean Philippot was entrusted with the construction of the station building on the basis of a U-shaped plan. There then took place the construction of a structure of elongated form, equipped with a flat tile roof composed of several roof steps. The building is constructed in reinforced concrete with a vault with curved frames overtopping the vast passenger hall. It is an architectural creation both innovative, if one considers the general volume of the station, and marked by local references as evidenced by the use of false timber framing as well as stone and brick facing. The building is also decorated with painted canvas works by Louis Houpin in 1932.
