Historique
Vestige de l'ancien couvent des Cordeliers qui s'installèrent à Castelnaudary en 1293. L'église aurait été construite au 15e siècle. C'est un vaste édifice de type gothique méridional : choeur polygonal, nef unique très large, chapelles latérales entre les contreforts. Pendant la Révolution, le couvent est vendu en parcelles. En 1800, l'église est rendue au culte, mais le cloître, situé contre le mur gouttereau sud, est démoli pour permettre l'ouverture de la rue. A partir de 1843, l'église devient paroissiale et subit de nombreuses transformations. En 1883, construction d'un narthex de style néogothique devant le porche. En 1931, reconstruction de la flèche sud, menaçant de s'effondrer ; réalisation de deux peintures par Paul Sibra (Les voix de la France ; Saint-François prêchant aux oiseaux). History
Remnant of the old Franciscan convent which settled in Castelnaudary in 1293. The church is said to have been built in the 15th century. It is a vast building of southern Gothic type: polygonal choir, very wide single nave, lateral chapels between buttresses. During the Revolution, the convent is sold in parcels. In 1800, the church is returned to worship, but the cloister, situated against the south gutter wall, is demolished to allow the opening of the street. From 1843, the church becomes parochial and undergoes numerous transformations. In 1883, construction of a narthex in neogothic style in front of the porch. In 1931, reconstruction of the south spire, threatening to collapse; realization of two paintings by Paul Sibra (The Voices of France; Saint Francis Preaching to the Birds). After the church was decommissioned in 1944, the Cavaillé-Coll organ is removed in 1953 to be installed in the new church of the Sacred Heart, in Carcassonne.
