Historique
La plus ancienne mention du premier château de Saint-Ferriol date de 1155. Le château actuel, construit vraisemblablement à la fin du 16e ou au début du 17e siècle, a donc remplacé un édifice plus ancien. Le château est composé d'un corps principal, de plan rectangulaire, à un étage et un étage de comble, et de deux ailes basses en partie détruites, au nord, qui ferment la cour à l'est et à l'ouest. L'entrée primitive était à l'est ; ce portail en arc plein cintre est aujourd'hui occulté. Le château est construit sur une plate-forme qui domine le village. History
The earliest mention of the first château of Saint-Ferriol dates from 1155. The present château, built presumably in the late 16th or early 17th century, thus replaced an older building. The château is composed of a main block, rectangular in plan, with one storey and a roof space storey, and two low wings partly destroyed to the north, which close the courtyard to the east and west. The original entrance was to the east; this round arch portal is now blocked. The château is built on a platform which dominates the village. At the level of the roof space storey there exists a chimney which bears the mention of "Noble Anne de Mauleon" and the date of 1630. The escutcheon placed at the centre of the mantlepiece represents a lion in high relief, reared against a château with three towers. This château testifies essentially to 17th-century architecture. It was subject to several alterations, notably at the end of the 17th century and from 1763 onwards.
