Les chais, le bureau et latelier de mise en bouteilles sont entièrement reconstruits dans les années 1850 par larchitecte Eugène Demangeat pour la maison de commerce Martell, fondée en 1715. Les bâtiments cernent une cour carrée au centre de laquelle se trouve « la coquille », maison plus ancienne, dont la destination a beaucoup varié. A la fin du 19e siècle, dimportants travaux sont effectués avec la construction de la distillerie en 1890, de nouveaux chais et du comptoir en 1906. Lusine sétend ensuite progressivement tout autour par de nouveaux chais, une distillerie, etc. Une tour de mise en bouteilles, en pan de béton et brique, à quatre étages, est érigée en 1928, et danciens bâtiments sont encore agrandis et complétés. La représentativité industrielle de cet établissement est évidente ; les bâtiments forment un ensemble qui, malgré les changements daffectations successifs, rappelle bien lorganisation antérieure de lune des plus anciennes maisons de cognac.

History
The cellars, office and bottling workshop are entirely reconstructed in the 1850s by architect Eugène Demangeat for the Martell trading company, founded in 1715. The buildings enclose a square courtyard in the centre of which stands "the shell", an older house, whose use has varied greatly. At the end of the 19th century, major works were carried out with the construction of the distillery in 1890, new cellars and the counter in 1906. The factory then gradually extends all around with new cellars, a distillery, etc. A bottling tower, in concrete and brick, with four storeys, was erected in 1928, and old buildings were further enlarged and completed. The industrial representativeness of this establishment is evident; the buildings form a complex which, despite successive changes of use, clearly recalls the earlier organisation of one of the oldest cognac houses.
