Autrefois siège d'un archiprêtré dit du Haut Jouat ou d'Aure supérieure, l'église présente un chevet d'époque romane comprenant une abside centrale flanquée de deux absidioles. Pour l'essentiel, l'édifice daterait de la fin du 12e siècle. Des peintures murales à la détrempe, datables de la seconde moitié du 15e siècle, ont été trouvées dans la partie basse du choeur, dans l'absidiole nord et sur un pilier de la nef. Celles du choeur représentent la vie de la Vierge et l'Enfance du Christ depuis la Visitation jusqu'à l'Assomption. Dans l'absidiole nord subsiste une scène de repas, peut-être le festin d'Hérode.

History
Formerly seat of an archpresbytery known as that of Haut Jouat or Upper Aure, the church presents a chevet of Romanesque period comprising a central apse flanked by two absidioles. For the most part, the edifice would date from the late 12th century. Mural paintings in distemper, datable to the second half of the 15th century, have been found in the lower part of the chevet, in the northern absidiole and on a pillar of the nave. Those of the chevet represent the life of the Virgin and the Infancy of Christ from the Visitation to the Assumption. In the northern absidiole remains a scene of banqueting, perhaps the feast of Herod.
