Commencé en 1913 pour l'Exposition internationale urbaine et inauguré en 1926, le stade de Gerland est l'œuvre de l'architecte Tony Garnier. History
Begun in 1913 for the International Urbanism Exhibition and inaugurated in 1926, the Gerland stadium is the work of architect Tony Garnier. Four entrances in the form of triumphal arches, inspired by ancient stadia, conferred great solemnity on the whole and made it appreciated as a "masterpiece of reinforced concrete architecture". Designed to accommodate 30,000 people, the stadium was greatly disfigured by destructions and additions of all sorts, notably in 1961, 1984 and 1998.
