Historique
Conçus en 1906, édifiés de 1909 à 1914 et mis en service en 1928, les abattoirs de la Mouche représentent le premier grand équipement municipal construit par l'architecte Tony Garnier à son retour de Rome. A la suite de la démolition des abattoirs en 1974, d'un ensemble qui couvrait 25 hectares ne subsiste aujourd'hui que la grande halle du marché couvert, une structure longue de 120 mètres et de 80 mètres de portée sans poteaux. Sa charpente métallique, étudiée par l'ingénieur Bertrand de Fontviolant, a été construite par la Société Fives-Lille. La halle a été réhabilitée par les architectes Philippe Robert et Bernard Reichen en 1987. Elle accueille aujourd'hui de grands événements économiques ou culturels (salons, spectacles...).

Conceived in 1906, built from 1909 to 1914 and put into service in 1928, the abattoirs of la Mouche represent the first major municipal facility built by architect Tony Garnier upon his return from Rome. Following the demolition of the abattoirs in 1974, from a complex that covered 25 hectares there remains today only the great hall of the covered market, a structure 120 metres long and 80 metres span without posts. Its metal roof structure, studied by engineer Bertrand de Fontviolant, was built by the Société Fives-Lille. The hall was rehabilitated by architects Philippe Robert and Bernard Reichen in 1987. It now hosts major economic or cultural events (trade fairs, performances...).
