History
The feudal motte surrounded by its moats is a fine example of military architecture predating stone keeps (10th and 11th century). Rivray was certainly, until its destruction by the English in 1428, an important place for the defence of the Perche. The motte is situated on a height which was formerly crossed by the Chemin de César, an ancient way from Chartres to Le Mans.
