Historique
Basilique néo-gothique, construite par l'architecte Tessier sur une terrasse avec escaliers montant vers le parvis. De plan en croix latine, l'édifice se compose d'une nef flanquée de deux bas-côtés, un transept saillant et un choeur à déambulatoire avec chapelles rayonnantes. Deux flèches encadrent la façade. Une tour et une flèche avaient été prévues au carré du transept, mais non pas été bâties pour raisons financières. Le tympan est garni d'un double bas-relief. History
Neo-Gothic basilica, built by architect Tessier on a terrace with stairs leading up to the parvis. Of Latin cross plan, the building consists of a nave flanked by two aisles, a projecting transept and a choir with ambulatory and radiating chapels. Two spires frame the façade. A tower and spire had been planned at the transept crossing, but were not built for financial reasons. The tympanum is furnished with a double bas-relief. At the bottom, Jesus descended into Hell welcomes the Saints of the Old Testament. Above is represented the Ascension. At the top of the façade, God and Christ crown the Virgin. The upper gallery of the apse houses 32 statues of saints. Between 1917 and 1947, the master glassworker Barillet, in collaboration with Lechevallier and Hausen, creates an ensemble of stained-glass windows. Following the Art Deco style stained-glass windows of the early century, come those marked by cubist and fauve influences.
