The priory belonged to the Benedictines from the 11th century. Buildings reconstructed in the 18th century, between 1714 and 1754. Garden arranged after 1722. In the 19th century, installation of the sub-prefecture, then a gendarmerie, and finally since 1854 the teacher training college. The three buildings of the mid-18th century form a U around the cloister. The church which closed the whole to the south was demolished in the early 19th century. The three existing galleries open by depressed arches. The distributions were modified from the 19th century onwards, but the staircase of honour in the north-west corner retained its 18th-century arrangement.
