Historique

History
Before the construction of the present church, there must have existed a priory-cure at the presentation of the prior of Saint-Vivien de Saintes. The church must have been rebuilt in the 14th century. The plan of the foundations takes the form of a rectangle. On the east side, opposite the location of the central dome of the asymmetrical transept, is attached the bell tower of the same period as the nave. The lantern tower takes a square base up to the level of the sablière of the central vessel and the upper storey presents an octagonal form. These two parts are connected by a truncated pyramid with octagonal section. The portal presents a narthex in trilobed pointed arch, composed of a main entrance flanked by two arcades with walled openings. Above this arcading, on the tympanum, there exists a second plane of ornamentation composed of four bays in trilobed pointed arch, furnished with tracery in ashlar stone forming four niches. Five small columns escape from the point of fall of these four arches and end in a small lantern-canopy. The centre of the gable is pierced by an oculus forming a rosette with eight lobes. On the north side is welded to a buttress a rectangular tower providing access to the bell tower located on the opposite side.
