Historique
Les Carmélites, installées à Angoulême depuis 1633 rue de Turenne, étendirent leur couvent vers l'est en 1739. C'est à cette époque qu'aurait été bâtie cette porte, que son caractère architectural inciterait à dater d'une époque antérieure. C'est une ouverture plein cintre dont les jambages sont décorés de pilastres adossés à un parement en pierres de taille appareillées, ornées de bossages. Une clef ornée d'une feuille d'acanthe est la seule décoration de la porte. Au-dessus se trouve un entablement avec un fronton ouvert pour laisser passer une niche, flanquée de pilastres, elle-même surmontée d'un fronton également ouvert pour le passage d'un socle qui supporte une figure. L'entablement est décoré de feuillages.

History
The Carmelites, settled in Angoulême since 1633 on rue de Turenne, extended their convent to the east in 1739. It was at this period that this door would have been built, whose architectural character would incline one to date it to an earlier period. It is a round arch opening whose jambs are decorated with pilasters set against ashlar stonework, ornamented with bossage. A keystone ornamented with an acanthus leaf is the only decoration of the door. Above is found an entablature with an open pediment to allow passage to a niche, flanked by pilasters, itself surmounted by an open pediment also allowing passage to a plinth which supports a figure. The entablature is decorated with foliage.
