Historique
Le palais épiscopal, devenu en 1804 hôtel de préfecture, reconstruit en partie en 1859, a été incendié en 1887 puis rebâtit sur les plans de Germer Durand, architecte départemental. Le palais épiscopal, bâti par Aldebert III au 12e siècle, se dressait au pied des clochers. Un étage voûté le reliait à la cathédrale. Cet édifice présentait, au-dessus du deuxième étage, dix travées d'arcs ornementaux et un cordon de dents d'engrenage sous la corniche, architecture d'influence lombarde. La préfecture actuelle se compose d'un pavillon principal et d'un second à l'est. La porte est en chêne et noyer.
