Historique
Construit à l'initiative du pape Urbain V, l'édifice actuel s'élève à l'emplacement d'une église romane ayant elle-même remplacé une église plus ancienne mentionnée en 951. Les travaux débutent en 1369. Le gros oeuvre est achevé en 1466. En 1487, la nef est agrandie de deux travées. En 1508, un nouveau clocher est élevé. En 1512, le second clocher est achevé. History
Built at the initiative of Pope Urban V, the present edifice stands at the location of a Romanesque church which itself had replaced an older church mentioned in 951. The works begin in 1369. The main structure is completed in 1466. In 1487, the nave is enlarged by two bays. In 1508, a new bell tower is erected. In 1512, the second bell tower is completed. In 1581, the Protestant leader Merle damages the edifice (destruction of the large piers of the building, causing the collapse of the central vessel, the aisles and the majority of the southern chapels). The new cathedral is consecrated in 1620.
