Historique

History
Nobleman Antoine de Claris, counsellor to the court of Aides, purchased the large building situated between the rue Saint-Guilhem and two alleyways, which ran between the rue Vien and the rue de l'Amandier. He had himself invested with these two small public ways to incorporate them into the courtyards and buildings of the new construction. After the Revolution, the street façade was demolished to permit the widening of the public way in 1863, and rebuilt slightly set back. This new façade has doubtless retained old elements reused. It presents a decoration of garlands, masks and palmettes. The cornice is adorned with sculpted heads. A central entrance gives access to a vaulted passage and a small open courtyard, followed by a vestibule and a very large court. To the right of the vestibule is found the staircase. The entrance to the staircase has been particularly carefully finished. Two fluted columns support the spring of the elliptical arch by means of an entablature with dentils which rests, on the other hand, on engaged pilasters. Up to the first storey, the stringers are straight, assemble at right angle and rest on square pillars. On the upper storey, they are encased and rounded at the angles. Like the stringers, the handrail presents two different types. On the upper storey, it is a simple succession of bars, alternately straight and wavy. The handrail of the lower storey is composed of narrow panels, in the form of balusters.
