Le pont est dit de Montifort, nom d'un faubourg voisin où se regroupaient sans doute moulins ou drapiers. L'ouvrage présente un aspect archaïque avec son dos d'âne très prononcé et sa voie très étroite. On peut seulement estimer, d'après quelques détails de construction et le tracé aigu de l'éperon, qu'il est probablement antérieur aux réglementations générales adoptées au début du 17e siècle. La petite arche en plein cintre qui sert de passage sous la culée nord est beaucoup plus récente. Elle a probablement été établie pour soulager la culée de la poussée des eaux, après la grande inondation de 1745. Le pont franchit d'une seule arche le cours de la Soulondres. La voûte est entièrement en pierre d'appareil. Les parements des murs et des piles ne sont pas appareillés mais garnis de moellons et de galets. Il en est de même pour l'unique éperon, établi côté amont. La petite arche en plein cintre est aussi voûtée en pierre d'appareil, mais dans un matériau différent, d'un grès plus jaunacé et moins résistant. Les pentes latérales, très accentuées, sont prolongées par des chemins d'accès en pente douce. Les parapets ont subi des réfections modernes.

History
The bridge is known as the bridge of Montifort, named after a neighbouring suburb where mills or cloth-makers probably gathered together. The structure presents an archaic appearance with its very pronounced hump back and its very narrow roadway.
