Historique
La bastide de Salles a été fondée en 1271 par Alphonse de Poitiers. Le décimaire de Salles est mentionné en 1302 dans un inventaire de l'ordre de Saint-Jean-de-Jérusalem. En 1317, l'église est rattachée au diocèse de Mirepoix. La cure était unie au chapitre Saint-Etienne de Toulouse. Une pierre encastrée dans le mur occidental porte une inscription de 1685 qui paraît se référer à une grosse réparation. L'édifice se compose d'une nef avec chapelles latérales, et d'un chevet pentagonal prolongé à l'est par une chapelle. Le sanctuaire, quatre travées de la nef et quatre chapelles datent du 16e siècle. History
The bastide of Salles was founded in 1271 by Alphonse of Poitiers. The tithe official of Salles is mentioned in 1302 in an inventory of the Order of Saint-Jean-de-Jérusalem. In 1317, the church is transferred to the diocese of Mirepoix. The cure was united to the chapter Saint-Etienne of Toulouse. A stone set into the western wall bears an inscription of 1685 which appears to refer to major repairs. The building comprises a nave with side chapels, and a pentagonal chevet extended to the east by a chapel. The sanctuary, four bays of the nave and four chapels date from the 16th century. The fifth bay of the nave, the porch and the bell tower are from the late 17th century. The vault of the sanctuary was remade in the 19th century. The bell tower forms part of the west wall of the church. Its top is triangular in form and pierced by six Romanesque bell-tower arcades arranged 1-2-3.
