Historique

History
Former priory united to the chapter of Saint-Nazaire of Carcassonne. The general plan of the foundations is comparable to that of churches of Visigothic period in the region. The enlargement of the church, to the west, was carried out in a recent period. The coarse masonry is reinforced by pillars no doubt situated at the junction of the old and recent walls. This architectural device suggests that, initially, the roof was timber-framed, on account of the absence of reinforcement of the walls. In its present state, the church is vaulted throughout. This new roof arrangement seems to have necessitated, on the north façade, the positioning of pillars not bonded to the masonry. From the level below the Romanesque windows, a slight offset in the arrangement of the masonry would seem to indicate a restoration of the church in the Romanesque period, at which time it was vaulted. Inside, between a buttress and the triumphal arch, there is a fresco, probably Romanesque.
