Sur une face, le Christ en croix est entouré d'anges qui reçoivent dans leurs mains le sang qui coule de ses mains et de ses pieds. Un autre tient le phylactère sur lequel sont inscrites les quatre initiales INRI. Deux autres paraissent s'envoler aux extrémités des bras de la croix. Aux deux côtés se tiennent debout la Vierge et saint Jean, sur une tablette soutenue par des anges qui présentent des phylactères portant chacun la moitié du millésime en lettres gothiques. Au-dessus de la croix, un prophète ou un docteur semble annoncer ou expliquer le mystère de la Rédemption (sans doute Isaïe). Sous le suppedaneum, un écusson en pointe montre en chef une navette, indiquant sans doute que l'érection de cette croix pourrait être le fait d'une confrérie de tisserands. Sur le revers de la croix, la Vierge debout tient l'Enfant sur son bras gauche tandis que trois anges élèvent une couronne au-dessus de sa tête. History
On one face, the Christ on the cross is surrounded by angels who receive in their hands the blood flowing from his hands and feet. Another holds the scroll on which are inscribed the four initials INRI. Two others appear to fly off at the extremities of the arms of the cross. On both sides stand the Virgin and Saint John, on a tablet supported by angels who present scrolls each bearing half of the date in Gothic letters. Above the cross, a prophet or a doctor appears to announce or explain the mystery of the Redemption (probably Isaiah). Beneath the suppedaneum, a shield pointed at the base shows in the chief a shuttle, indicating perhaps that the erection of this cross could be the work of a guild of weavers. On the reverse of the cross, the Virgin standing holds the Child on her left arm while three angels raise a crown above her head. The Virgin is accompanied, on one side by Saint Stephen, patron of the parish and of an ancient abbey which appears to have disappeared by the end of the 2nd century; on the other by Saint Michael, with cuirass and greaves, piercing the head of the dragon in the form of a man-at-arms with a thick moustache. A prophet also surmounts the group (perhaps David). A shield with no figures, flanked by angels, answers that which is carved at the foot of the cross.
