Hors de l'enceinte de la forteresse se trouvaient, au Moyen Age, quatre faubourgs et leur quatre consuls. Cette tour appartenait à la maison consulaire du faubourg du Barlet, le long de la route Limoges-Aubusson. Un souterrain, retrouvé en 1965, rattachait cette tour à la tour carrée qui commandait l'entrée du château. Il peut faire dater la tour ronde du 11e siècle. Au 16e siècle, le consul Jacques Chapellon fit édifier la maison actuelle qu'il accola à la tour, apportant quelques remaniements à cette dernière.

History
Outside the fortress walls, there were in the Middle Ages four suburbs and their four consuls. This tower belonged to the consular house of the suburb of Barlet, along the Limoges-Aubusson road. An underground passage, discovered in 1965, connected this tower to the square tower which commanded the entrance to the castle. It may date the round tower to the 11th century. In the 16th century, the consul Jacques Chapellon had the present house built which he attached to the tower, making some alterations to the latter.
