Historique
La famille de Veilhan de Penacors avait construit au 13e siècle un château fort flanqué de quatre grandes tours, dont il ne reste aujourd'hui que des ruines. La forteresse est abandonnée par la famille au 16e siècle au profit d'une maison de ville plus confortable (hôtel Saint-Mexant). La tour présente une poivrière abritant un escalier à vis, dont les fenêtres sont encadrées de pilastres, de linteaux et d'appuis moulurés. Les pilastres de la porte d'entrée sont ornés de canelures et surmontés de chapiteaux à volutes d'ordre ionique. Le fronton de cette porte ouvragée encadre un écusson. Dans une cour intérieure se devine le départ d'une seconde tour, carrée. Près de la tour se trouve une ancienne chapelle dont l'ouverture est surmontée d'un entablement classique.

History
The family of Veilhan de Penacors had built in the 13th century a strong castle flanked by four large towers, of which only ruins remain today. The fortress is abandoned by the family in the 16th century in favour of a more comfortable town house (hôtel Saint-Mexant). The tower presents a pepperpot housing a spiral staircase, whose windows are framed by pilasters, lintels and moulded sills. The pilasters of the entrance door are decorated with fluting and crowned with capitals with Ionic volutes. The pediment of this elaborate door frames an escutcheon. In an interior courtyard can be discerned the start of a second, square tower. Near the tower stands an old chapel whose opening is surmounted by a classical entablature.
