Historique

History
In 1837, the health authority of Ajaccio requests the replacement of the lazaretto of the Sanguinaires, too distant from the town, by a lazaretto at Aspretto. Work begins in 1843, and is interrupted in 1845 for lack of funds. The State then takes charge of the construction and Lottero, architect of the town, is replaced by Cotin, architect of the department. The works are formally received in 1847. It appears that this building was never used as such, the minister of public works having declared the lazarettos of Toulon and Marseille sufficient. The building served as a stable, a depot for tobacco and hemp, a workshop, a dwelling for prisoners who worked on the imperial road. The plan presents a set of juxtaposed or connected buildings, lining up around a central courtyard. The main building presents a hemicycle form closed, with four vaulted passages. In front of this building is another, rectangular, with a triangular gable. The whole is surrounded by an enclosure wall which provides a promenade around the building. A garden connected these buildings to the sea and to the landing place.
