Historique

History
The church perhaps formed part of the priory of Saint-Loup, of the order of Saint-Benoît, under the dependence of the abbot of La Chaise-Dieu until 1563, at which time it was given to the abbey of Saint-Jean-de-Sens. Nothing remains of this priory. According to a plan widespread in the Romanesque period, the church is constituted by a nave flanked by aisles, a choir extended by a semi-circular apse, flanked by absidioles, and framed by square chapels forming a false transept on the crossing of which rises the bell tower. Square in plan, the bell tower is topped with a pavilion roof. A setback animates it at the height of the ridge line of the nave roof. Twin openings falling on a central colonette are opened on each of its faces, in its upper part. Similar openings but with pilaster instead of colonette, are situated above the roof of the chapels and date from the 1894 restoration. The interior was also largely remodeled at that date.
