Benedictine abbey of the Congregation of Saint Maur, founded in the 11th century. The abbatial church is constructed from 1040. It is destroyed by fire around 1262. At the end of the 13th century, a new church is built and the monastery enlarged. The abbey was ruined before 1391 by the English. In 1468, a church larger than the previous one is constructed. Only the choir was built, juxtaposed to the Gothic nave and a square Romanesque tower. The nave, reduced in 1682 to the west gable and south wall, was razed in 1786. At the initiative of Pierre de Berulle, a college intended for the education of children of minor nobility is founded in the abbey in 1644. The reconstruction of the conventual buildings begins from 1663 with the erection of the west wing, and continues from 1701 to 1735. To respect symmetry and balance between the buildings, the west wing begun in 1663 was entirely remodelled. The cloister, constructed from 1725, was never completed. In 1837 the riding school was built on the site of the abbatial residence.
