Historique
Les bâtiments furent construits à l'origine pour servir de couvent aux Visitandines. Autour du cloître, les ailes nord et est furent édifiées en 1635. L'aile ouest et l'église furent bâties entre 1641 et 1647 ; l'aile sud date de 1655. Après la Révolution, le lieu servit de prison, de magasin militaire, de casernement, d'accueil pour la justice de paix et les aliénés. En 1825, un premier projet établi par l'architecte Pinault prévoyait la démolition des bâtiments anciens. Par la suite, seul l'hôtel de la préfecture devait être une construction nouvelle. La première pierre fut posée en 1826. L'hôtel se présente sur deux niveaux, situé à l'extrémité Est de l'aile nord du cloître.

History
The buildings were originally constructed to serve as a convent for the Visitandines. Around the cloister, the north and east wings were built in 1635. The west wing and the church were built between 1641 and 1647; the south wing dates from 1655. After the Revolution, the place served as a prison, military warehouse, barracks, and accommodation for the justice of the peace and the insane. In 1825, a first project drawn up by the architect Pinault provided for the demolition of the old buildings. Subsequently, only the prefecture hotel was to be a new construction. The first stone was laid in 1826. The hotel presents itself on two levels, situated at the eastern extremity of the north wing of the cloister.
