History

The château occupies a quadrangular surface on the edge of a spur. The most important part of the defensive means is found on the west side, consisting of four cylindrical towers of which the two in the centre date from the 13th century. The two end towers were remade in the 15th century. The windows were reopened in the 15th century, replacing the original arrow slits. At the same period, the wall between the towers was pierced with mullioned windows, proving the existence at that time of a main dwelling leaning against this part of the enclosure. Towers also to the north and east. A rectangular main dwelling of the 15th century leans against the south-east tower. The south curtain is replaced today by a terrace. Before it there formerly existed a first line of defence with two small round towers of which only one remains. On the south terrace was built the main body of the dwelling, now destroyed. Only the residential buildings leaning against the western fortifications remain, with, to the north, a main dwelling in brick and stone of the 15th century, flanked by an octagonal stair turret supporting another cylindrical turret in corbelling; to the south, a pavilion of the 17th century. Opposite the courtyard, leaning against the south-east tower, is found another building of the 17th century.
