Historique
Les Etangs formaient une châtellenie appartenant à l'abbaye bénédictine de Cormery. Le château fortifié fut construit vers 1492 par l'abbé Jean du Puy. Les bâtiments se développaient sur les quatre côtés d'une cour carrée, et étaient défendus par des courtines et des douves. L'accès à l'enceinte se faisait par une porte défendue par deux tours cylindriques et précédée d'un pont-levis. Cette porte était un long couloir qui traversait le bâtiment qui subsiste de ce côté. Elle était accompagnée d'un guichet, lui-même précédé d'un pont-levis. Ce bâtiment comprend une aile en retour. History
The Etangs formed a castellany belonging to the Benedictine abbey of Cormery. The fortified castle was built around 1492 by abbot Jean du Puy. The buildings developed on the four sides of a square courtyard, and were defended by curtain walls and moats. Access to the enclosure was by a gate defended by two cylindrical towers and preceded by a drawbridge. This gate was a long corridor which crossed the building that subsists on this side. It was accompanied by a wicket gate, itself preceded by a drawbridge. This building includes a return wing. At the south-west corner, a large cylindrical tower has preserved a line of machicolations and is pierced with windows flanked by Renaissance pilasters. Outbuildings occupy the north-west corner.
