History
This building, constructed in 1886, is part of the redevelopment of the boulevard de la République carried out in the 1880s, at the initiative of mayor Eugène Brisson. It presents itself as a typical product of the new architecture which took off in the mid-19th century. The entirely metal structure (iron framework resting on cast-iron columns) and the use of glass for the partitioning of the walls, leave little place for traditional materials which remain in the lower parts of the building (brick, stone).
