Historique
La fondation à Bourges d'un couvent de l'ordre des Augustins est contemporain ou peu antérieur à 1299. Ces religieux succédèrent aux frères de la Pénitence dont l'ordre fut supprimé en 1274. Les Augustins occupaient l'îlot qui était compris entre les rues Mirebeau, Calvin et Saint-Bonnet. Leur établissement fut en partie détruit par l'incendie qui ravagea une partie de la ville en 1487. De la reconstruction de la fin du 15e et du début du 16e siècle datent le réfectoire, le dortoir, l'église et la chapelle Saint-Jacques. D'importants remaniements eurent lieu au début du 18e siècle (bâtiments conventuels, cloître). En 1825, deux maisons furent érigées en bordure de la rue, de part et d'autre d'un passage qui est l'entrée actuel du couvent. Calvin, venu étudier à Bourges en 1529, aurait prêché au couvent des Augustins.

History
The foundation at Bourges of a convent of the order of Augustinians is contemporary with or slightly earlier than 1299. These religious succeeded the brothers of Penance whose order was suppressed in 1274. The Augustinians occupied the block which was comprised between the streets Mirebeau, Calvin and Saint-Bonnet. Their establishment was partly destroyed by the fire which ravaged part of the town in 1487. From the reconstruction of the late 15th and early 16th century date the refectory, the dormitory, the church and the chapel of Saint-Jacques. Significant alterations took place in the early 18th century (conventional buildings, cloister). In 1825, two houses were erected bordering the street, on either side of a passage which is the current entrance to the convent. Calvin, who came to study at Bourges in 1529, is said to have preached at the convent of the Augustinians.
