History

Cistercian abbey whose original buildings still partly exist and date from the second half of the 12th or the beginning of the 13th century. In the 17th century, important works were carried out and the buildings to the south of the cloister completely reconstructed. Of the buildings comprising the old abbey, there subsist the church; the eastern wing or monks' building, composed of the sacristy, a room covered with a barrel vault possibly being the abbot's chamber, the chapter house and a barrel-vaulted passage; the south wing of the 17th century containing the refectory and reception rooms; the western building called that of the Lay Brothers, housing the cellar, and the refectory of the lay brothers which extended this hall towards the south has disappeared. Of the cloister, nothing remains other than the holes in the walls indicating that it was covered with a roof structure and a few capitals set into the western façade on the court side.
