La confrérie des Pénitents Blancs est fondée à Rabastens vers 1600 et siège dans un premier temps à l'église Saint-Michel. Un sieur Gabriel Dumas ayant fait don de sa maison avec jardin, située au bourg Soubira, l'église des Pénitents Blancs fut construite sur cet emplacement en 1616. L'église, de plan à peu près rectangulaire, présente une façade encadrée de deux tourelles d'angle contenant les escaliers d'accès au clocher. Elle est percée d'une large baie triple sous un arc de décharge en plein cintre. La porte, principal élément de la décoration, occupe tout l'espace entre les montants de cet arc de décharge. Les piédroits en briques sont moulurés d'un quart-de-rond entre deux filets. Une assise de pierre est située au niveau des bases des pilastres latéraux, une autre au niveau des chapiteaux des piédroits. Les pilastres latéraux sont jumelés et décorés de chapiteaux corinthiens. Il n'est pas impossible que ce portail monumental ait été construit ou aménagé après 1616 mais la transformation des boulevards a rendu cette porte inaccessible avant 1784.

History
The confraternity of the White Penitents was founded in Rabastens around 1600 and initially had its seat in the church of Saint-Michel. A certain Gabriel Dumas having made a gift of his house with garden, situated in the bourg Soubira, the church of the White Penitents was constructed on this site in 1616. The church, of approximately rectangular plan, presents a façade framed by two corner turrets containing the stairs leading to the bell tower. It is pierced by a wide triple opening under a round arch relieving arch. The door, principal element of the decoration, occupies the entire space between the jambs of this relieving arch. The brick jambs are moulded with a quarter-round between two fillets. A course of stone is situated at the level of the bases of the lateral pilasters, another at the level of the capitals of the jambs. The lateral pilasters are coupled and decorated with Corinthian capitals. It is not impossible that this monumental portal was constructed or arranged after 1616 but the transformation of the boulevards made this door inaccessible before 1784.
