Au 13e siècle, le bourg de Fontanes appartenait aux évêques de Cahors. A l'intérieur, les retombées des voûtes d'ogives se font sur des culs de lampe sculptés dont certains éléments témoignent d'une école de sculpture quercynoise autour de 1500 (soleils, monogrammes du Christ et de la Vierge, croissants, fleurs de lys). Choeur, carré et chapelles des bas-côtés datés du 15e siècle. Le reste de l'église paraît plus récent. A partir des chapelles voûtées d'ogives s'observent un décrochement qui augmente, légèrement, la largeur de l'édifice. A noter, deux voûtes coupoliformes qui peuvent être du 17e ou du 18e siècle. Clocher rebâti en 1851.

History
In the 13th century, the hamlet of Fontanes belonged to the bishops of Cahors. Inside, the springing of the rib vaults rest on sculpted corbels, some elements of which bear witness to a school of Quercy sculpture around 1500 (suns, monograms of Christ and the Virgin, crescents, fleurs-de-lis). Choir, square and chapels of the aisles dated to the 15th century. The rest of the church appears more recent. From the chapels with rib vaults is observed a stepped recess which slightly increases the width of the building. To note, two dome-shaped vaults which may be from the 17th or 18th century. Bell tower rebuilt in 1851.
