From 1317 to 1790, Condom was the seat of a bishopric whose holders were for the most part important figures of the kingdom (Bossuet, Cossé-Brissac, Montmorency-Laval...). The construction of the bishop's palace was undertaken from 1693 to 1734 by Louis de Milon. Housed in a decrepit building near the cloister, he set about rebuilding this edifice whilst rethinking the gardens, terraces and outbuildings. He elaborated the garden and terrace to the east of the building, and purchased plots and houses to the north to create a vista. His successor, Alexandre César d'Anteroches completed the bishop's palace in 1793. Access to the courtyard is by a portal adorned with a pediment flanked by voluted ailerons. In the former chapel, the vault with flamboyant ribs is the work of Grossoles-Flamarens, from 1521 to 1543. The bishop's palace develops a façade of ten bays. In the interior, the ground floor retains decorative gypsum work.
