History
A Benedictine monastery existed originally. The primitive church must have possessed an ambulatory with radiating chapels. In 1317, the abbey church was elevated to a cathedral. In 1368, the monastery threatened ruin. The reconstruction of the entire episcopal complex began in 1506. A quadrangular tower occupies the centre of the building. The western façade opens by a Gothic portal. In 1796, the whole was sold as national property, then repurchased by the city in 1861.
