Les serres apparaissent à la fin du 18e siècle, à la suite des découvertes géographiques. La maîtrise de l'industrie du fer et du verre permet l'amélioration technique constante de la construction des serres, qui se développent surtout dans la seconde moitié du 19e siècle. Les serres de Toulouse furent édifiées en deux fois. En 1877, édification d'une rotonde par Pommard, puis, en 1893, celle des autres serres par Tartux présentant deux ailes, dont l'une perpendiculaire à la rotonde, et l'autre se terminant par deux hémicycles. Ces ailes sont à double exposition. L'ensemble est couvert de stores pour abriter l'intérieur du soleil. History
Greenhouses appeared at the end of the 18th century, following geographical discoveries. The mastery of the iron and glass industry enabled the constant technical improvement of greenhouse construction, which developed especially in the second half of the 19th century. The greenhouses of Toulouse were erected in two stages. In 1877, construction of a rotunda by Pommard, then, in 1893, that of the other greenhouses by Tartux presenting two wings, one of which perpendicular to the rotunda, and the other ending in two hemicycles. These wings have double exposure. The whole is covered with blinds to shelter the interior from the sun. First erected in the Jardin des Plantes, the entire structure was dismantled and then reassembled at the beginning of the 20th century in the flower garden.
