Historique
Fondée en 1290 par les moines de Granselve, Grenade était une ville marché destinée à favoriser l'essor agricole et commercial de la région. La place centrale est occupée par la halle qui occupe un carré de 72x74 mètres, et constitue le centre des rues disposées en damier. La charpente de trois étages, surmontés d'un beffroi, est portée par trente-six piliers de briques octogonaux qui auraient été construits entre 1582 et 1593. La toiture pyramidale subit trois décrochements successifs à partir du beffroi terminal, le dernier recouvrant les deux étages à greniers à l'intérieur. History
Founded in 1290 by the monks of Granselve, Grenade was a market town intended to promote the agricultural and commercial development of the region. The central square is occupied by the market hall which occupies a square of 72x74 metres, and forms the centre of the streets arranged in a grid pattern. The roof structure of three storeys, surmounted by a belfry, is carried by thirty-six octagonal brick pillars which are said to have been built between 1582 and 1593. The pyramidal roof undergoes three successive recesses starting from the terminal belfry, the last one covering the two storeys with granaries inside. On the first floor, above the sixteen pillars of the central surface, are the grain granaries whose access was by wooden ladders. This floor was closed by planks and pierced by large windows with wooden mullions and transoms.
