Historique

History
Castle built from 1773 to 1784 on the site of a feudal dwelling of which some vestiges remain. The castle consists of a main body of dwelling preceded by a courtyard of honour around which the dependencies are arranged (stables, barns, outbuildings). The rear façade overlooks the parterres of a French garden. The ground floor is surmounted by a noble storey and roof spaces lit by domes. On the exterior, the architect Bellenaud combined a neo-classical vocabulary. The great supporting arch of the landing of the first storey traces a depressed curve whose key bears the date of completion of the works (1784). On the interior, in the stairwell, paving, joinery, hardware and render have never been transformed or restored. The rooms of the ground floor form a sequence of communicating rooms around the central stairwell. The antechamber is a room with wainscoting of the lower storey surmounted by tapestries from Felletin. The dining-room is entirely wainscoted and comprises a wooden fireplace with a crossbow mantle. Several other rooms are furnished with wainscoting and fireplaces. This castle is one of the rare examples of classical architecture in Cantal, in which furniture and decoration have scarcely ever been altered.
