History

Pastiche of medieval Venetian architecture, characteristic of water towns. For the construction of this building, the architect Décoret was inspired by the Casa d'el Oro in Venice. The ornamentation is a mixture of Gothic and Moorish styles. On the ground floor, the portal is inscribed under a pointed and overreaching arch, in the Moorish fashion. The balcony, borne by consoles with lion heads, is furnished with a balustrade repeating the motif of the colonnade. A lion of Venice is seated on each of the angles of the balustrade. On the second floor, three central windows close a loggia whose front consists of a frame within which are inscribed three interlocking arches with crockets borne by pilasters with composite capitals. Inside, the entrance corridor is separated from the landing by stone tracery (crossed Gothic ribs with redents).
