Napoleon III entrusts to the architect Jean Lefaure the realization of a villa for his stays in Vichy. In 1863, his aide-de-camp, the Count of Clermont-Tonnerre, has a chalet built in which part of the Emperor's suite and his services are housed. It will be the first of a series of seven chalets, meeting the imperial needs during his stays in Vichy. The Chalet des Roses is a building of Savoyard style whose gros-oeuvre consists of rubble stone jointed by gravel embedded in pink cement. Of compact plan, the building was originally flanked by two separate small outbuildings of which only the south one remains. A north wing was added later. On the street façade, a wooden balcony with flat balusters extends across the entire width of the first floor, continuing in return on the south façade. The gable, protected by a wide eaves projection with cut-out wood edging, is covered with a facing of fretted boards (trefoils and four-leaf clovers). A wooden frieze runs between the gable and the lower floor. Two twinned windows and furnished with a lambrequin occupy the centre of the gable.
