L'hôtel de Montlaur est un exemple caractéristique d'un hôtel particulier du 18e siècle à Moulins, avec corps de logis sur rue, cour et communs à l'arrière. L'animation des façades est obtenue par le jeu des matériaux (chaînages de grès ; briques losangées noires et rouges). La cour intérieure, transformée en jardin, est formée par deux ailes en retour d'équerre (anciennes écuries) , et accessible par un passage d'entrée couvert fermé par une porte cochère sur rue. La porte cochère s'inscrit sous un portail en plein cintre orné de piédroits à bossages et surmonté d'une corniche amortie par une frise de grecques encadrant le balconnet de l'étage supérieur. A l'intérieur, deux pièces présentent un intérêt particulier. Au rez-de-chaussée du n°35, une ancienne salle à manger lambrissée contenant quatre placards à deux corps aux moulures chantournées, un ancien dessus de cheminée en gypserie et un dessus de porte peint représentant une scène galante. Une chambre à alcôve a gardé tous ses lambris, penderies et sa cheminée de pierre au manteau mouluré.

History
The Hôtel de Montlaur is a characteristic example of an 18th-century mansion in Moulins, with main dwelling on the street, courtyard and outbuildings at the rear. The animation of the façades is obtained by the play of materials (sandstone chainings; black and red diamond-pattern bricks). The interior courtyard, transformed into a garden, is formed by two wings in return at right angles (former stables), and is accessible by a covered entrance passage closed by a carriage gate on the street. The carriage gate is inscribed within a round-arch portal ornamented with rusticated jambs and surmounted by a cornice ended by a band of meanders framing the balconette of the upper storey. Inside, two rooms are of particular interest. On the ground floor of no. 35, a former dining room with wainscoting containing four two-part cupboards with moulded edges, an old gypserie mantelpiece and a painted overdoor depicting a gallant scene. A bedroom with alcove has retained all its panelling, wardrobes and its stone chimney with moulded mantel.
