Historique
Château fort édifié en 1150, retouché au 15e siècle (talutage des tours et façade ouest) , restauré en 1632, modifié aux 18e et 19e siècles. Les restaurations de cette époque, menées par le Vicomte de Ligondès, concernent la surélévation de la courtine ouest pur cacher des toitures et un crénelage dans le goût du 15e siècle. Le château s'ouvre par l'ancienne basse-cour, limitée au nord par les communs, à l'est par un haut mur sur lequel s'adossent les restes d'une chapelle du 15e siècle ainsi qu'une tour à chaque extrémité. A l'ouest, la cour s'étrangle pour former la cour d'honneur du château, limitée, à l'ouest et au sud, par des bâtiments formant l'ensemble des pièces dites de réception (salon, salle à manger, galerie et grand salon). Ces pièces sont décorées d'une cheminée Louis XIII, de tapisseries d'Aubusson du 17e siècle et de peintures de la même époque. L'ensemble des murs et des bâtiments est flanqué de quatre tours. Au sud, sur les fondations du 12e siècle, une terrasse domine les rives de la Sioule.

History
Fortified castle built in 1150, retouched in the 15th century (sloping of the towers and western facade), restored in 1632, modified in the 18th and 19th centuries. The restorations of this period, carried out by the Vicomte de Ligondès, concern the raising of the western curtain to hide roofing and crenellations in the 15th-century taste. The castle opens onto the former outer bailey, bounded to the north by outbuildings, to the east by a high wall against which lean the remains of a 15th-century chapel as well as a tower at each extremity. To the west, the courtyard narrows to form the castle's courtyard of honour, bounded to the west and south by buildings forming the ensemble of reception rooms (drawing room, dining room, gallery and grand salon). These rooms are decorated with a Louis XIII fireplace, with 17th-century Aubusson tapestries and paintings of the same period. The ensemble of walls and buildings is flanked by four towers. To the south, on 12th-century foundations, a terrace overlooks the banks of the Sioule.
