Dernière porte sur les quatre subsistant de la vieille place forte et du château d'Ainay, ancienne châtelleine du Bourbonnais. Elle tient son appellation de l'horloge installée à l'époque moderne. History
Last gate of the four surviving from the old stronghold and castle of Ainay, former châtellanie of the Bourbonnais. It takes its name from the clock installed in modern times. The gates were situated on ditches bordering the fortified enclosure. They had drawbridges and portcullises, and were each flanked by towers to defend their approaches. The two towers of the Clock Gate were raised and covered with a roof at the centre of which rises a bell tower. It retains traces of portcullis and arrow slits, vestiges from the 15th century. At one time, one of the two towers served as a prison. A new mechanism was installed for the clock in 1867.
