Historique
Occupé depuis le Néolithique, le site a connu une occupation plus dense au 1er siècle avant JC. Situé sur un éperon surplombant la confluence de l'Allier et de l'Auzon, il a été barré par une massive fortification avec talus et fossé pour constituer un oppidum à l'intérieur duquel ont été repérés des structures quadrangulaires ou circulaires, et un réseau de voies. Différentes activités artisanales y ont été identifiées (fours de potiers, ateliers de forgeage...) et un riche mobilier a été mis au jour, lié à la résidence d'une élite guerrière ayant des contacts étroits avec le monde romain. Une vaste zone de sépultures, incluant de nombreuses fosses à chevaux et la sépulture multiple de huit hommes et de leurs chevaux, a été découverte, constituant un témoignage exceptionnel sur une pratique funéraire inconnue jusqu'ici en Gaule.

History
Occupied since the Neolithic, the site experienced denser occupation in the 1st century BC. Situated on a spur overlooking the confluence of the Allier and the Auzon, it was barred by a massive fortification with embankment and ditch to constitute an oppidum within which quadrangular and circular structures were identified, as well as a network of roads. Various craft activities were identified there (pottery kilns, forging workshops...) and rich moveable goods were uncovered, linked to the residence of a warrior elite having close contacts with the Roman world. A vast burial area, including numerous horse pits and the multiple burial of eight men and their horses, was discovered, constituting exceptional testimony to a funeral practice previously unknown in Gaul.
