L'ancien moulin à papier de la Grand'Rive, qui a été aux 17e et 18e siècles le principal établissement de la région d'Ambert (sept roues, plus de cent personnes employées) , était à la fois manoir seigneurial et manufacture. Au début du 18e siècle, c'était la manufacture de papier la plus importante de France. La forte concurrence et les appuis dont bénéficiaient les papeteries de Montargis (Langlée, Buges) diminuèrent peu à peu son importance et son prestige et, au début du 19e siècle, la mécanisation, à laquelle ses propriétaires se refusèrent, provoqua sa fermeture et sa conversion en minoterie. History
The former paper mill of the Grand'Rive, which was in the 17th and 18th centuries the principal establishment of the Ambert region (seven wheels, more than one hundred persons employed), was at the same time a seigneurial manor and a manufactory. At the beginning of the 18th century, it was the most important paper manufactory in France. Strong competition and the backing which benefited the paper mills of Montargis (Langlée, Buges) gradually diminished its importance and prestige and, at the beginning of the 19th century, the mechanisation, to which its owners refused to submit, provoked its closure and its conversion into a flour mill. It has lost some of its functional elements.
