Située dans la partie de la rue constituant autrefois la place des Taules, ainsi nommée en raison des étaux volants qui y étaient installés les jours de marché, cette ancienne halle aux toiles, adossée au rempart de la ville de Guillaume IV, existait en 1480 et paraît avoir été construite au début du 15e siècle. Elle devait s'étendre jusqu'à la rue de la Boucherie où elle rejoignait la vieille halle. Avant le 18e siècle, le bâtiment ne comportait qu'un rez-de-chaussée. Il a été surélevé à cette époque et, en 1733, le déblaiement de la chaussée a mis ce rez-de-chaussée sur terrasse. Cette halle a gardé sa disposition primitive consistant en quatre grandes arcades en anse de panier réservées aux étaux et séparées entre elles par une petite porte. Sur les piédroits de ces ouvertures monte une colonnette cylindrique comportant des bases prismatiques. Sans chapiteau, elle se poursuit en boudin pour encadrer la baie complètement. Deux étages furent ajoutés au 18e siècle.

History
Situated in the part of the street formerly constituting the square of the Taules, thus named because of the flying stalls which were installed there on market days, this former cloth hall, leaning against the rampart of the city of Guillaume IV, existed in 1480 and appears to have been built in the early 15th century. It must have extended as far as the street of the Butchery where it joined the old hall. Before the 18th century, the building comprised only a ground floor. It was heightened at this period and, in 1733, the clearing of the roadway placed this ground floor on a terrace. This hall has retained its primitive disposition consisting of four large basket-handle arches reserved for stalls and separated from each other by a small door. On the piers of these openings rises a cylindrical colonette with prismatic bases. Without capital, it continues as a bead to frame the opening completely. Two storeys were added in the 18th century.
