L'emplacement de cette chapelle et celui de ses alentours servirent d'abord de cimetière aux premiers chrétiens de la ville, au milieu du 3e siècle. Dès l'an 312 s'y dressait une église. Plus tard, une église dédiée à Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens remplaça celle de Saint-Gal et servit au monastère de Chantoin jusqu'à l'arrivée des pères Carmes Déchaussés en 1633. Le couvent des pères Carmes Déchaussés fut incendié en 1699, ainsi que l'église. Cette dernière fut reprise jusqu'aux fondements en 1720. £La chapelle, dont la construction s'étend jusqu'en 1775, est un édifice à plan central constitué par une rotonde sur laquelle s'ouvrent quatre alvéoles de plan elliptique. La façade sur l'entrée présente, pour seuls éléments décoratifs, les lourds ailerons qui flanquent la fenêtre haute et les vantaux du portail aux armes d'un archevêque et de la Maison de Clermont. Cette porte est un beau morceau de menuiserie Louis XV. L'intérieur est uniquement animé par des pilastres doriques soutenant un entablement.

History
The location of this chapel and its surroundings first served as a cemetery for the first Christians of the city, in the middle of the 3rd century. From the year 312 a church stood there. Later, a church dedicated to Saint-Pierre-aux-Liens replaced that of Saint-Gal and served the monastery of Chantoin until the arrival of the Barefoot Carmelite fathers in 1633. The convent of the Barefoot Carmelite fathers was set on fire in 1699, as was the church. The latter was taken up to the foundations in 1720. The chapel, whose construction extended until 1775, is a building with a central plan constituted by a rotunda on which open four recesses with an elliptical plan. The façade on the entrance presents, as sole decorative elements, the heavy ailerons flanking the high window and the panels of the portal bearing the arms of an archbishop and the House of Clermont. This door is a fine piece of Louis XV joinery. The interior is uniquely animated by Doric pilasters supporting an entablement.
