History

Romanesque building of Auvergnat style, originally a castle chapel. It was given to the monks of La Chaise-Dieu in 1050. This church, preceded by a modern porch tower, comprises a nave of four bays flanked by aisles, a transept, whose square opens onto the choir terminated in a hemicycle and whose non-projecting arms open onto absidioles. The square of the transept is vaulted with a dome on squinches. The barrel vault of the apse rests on round arches of a series of five decorative arcades. An absidiole in barrel vault, semi-circular, opens onto each arm of the transept. This Romanesque building has preserved its structure intact, as well as the sculpture of the capitals. The capitals all present, beneath an abacus moulded with a cavetto under the band and above a toric astragal, a basket sculptured with foliage sometimes mingled with motifs (interlace) or animals and figures.
