Historique

History
Large office building occupying an entire block, with a nine-storey rotunda overlooking the angle formed by the Champs-Elysées and avenue Georges V. Designed in 1931 by the architects Louis-Hippolyte Boileau and Charles-Henri Besnard, the building was constructed in steel frame and reinforced concrete by the Schwartz-Hautmont company, with a facing of Hauteville stone. Originally, the building housed the offices of the National Office of Tourism and was known, for this reason, as the "Maison de France"; its sign stood out at the top of the rotunda. The interior décor of that period, and notably the stained glass windows by Louis Barillet, has disappeared. Inaugurated in April 1965, the Russian cabaret "Raspoutine" occupies three basements of the building (entrance at 58 rue Bassano); the décor in staff, painted wood and fabrics is signed by the painter and decorator Romain de Tirtoff, known as Erté.
