Historique
Bar créé en 1899 par Louis Fouquet, limonadier, à la place d'un estaminet pour cochers situé en rez-de-chaussée d'un immeuble datant de 1863. Suivant la mode ambiante de l'américanisme, le bar est lancé sous l'enseigne "The Criterion-Fouquet's Bar" ; le bar de l'Escadrille, au fond de la salle du rez-de-chaussée, est ouvert en 1906 par l'aéronaute brésilien Alberto Santos-Dumont. Le restaurant est ouvert à l'entresol en 1913 par Léopold Mourier, successeur de Fouquet. Le décor est entièrement renouvelé en 1958 par le décorateur Jean Royère. L'établissement est le dernier témoin des grands cafés de l'avenue des Champs-Elysées et un lieu de mémoire associé à la vie littéraire et cinématographique.

History
Bar created in 1899 by Louis Fouquet, limonadier, in place of a small inn for coachmen located on the ground floor of a building dating from 1863. Following the prevailing fashion of Americanism, the bar was launched under the sign "The Criterion-Fouquet's Bar"; the Escadrille bar, at the back of the ground floor room, was opened in 1906 by the Brazilian aeronaut Alberto Santos-Dumont. The restaurant was opened on the mezzanine in 1913 by Léopold Mourier, Fouquet's successor. The décor was entirely renewed in 1958 by the decorator Jean Royère. The establishment is the last surviving witness to the great cafés of the Champs-Elysées and a place of memory associated with literary and cinematographic life.
